2012 April - New Perennials for 2012

Spring appears to be arriving early for 2012. Warm days, lots of sunshine and melting snow leads to anticipating of a new season of gardening. As always, Cannor Nurseries will have a great selection of new perennials for you to plant in your yard. Look for bold colours and textures this year.

PERENNIAL OF THE YEAR 2012 – Brunnera Jack Frost – While not new, this perennial will add great colour to your shade garden with its frosty silver leaves and green veins. Flowers are a delicate sky-blue.

ASTILBE - Younique series – A compact Astilbe that produce more flowers than foliage for a very colourful display. Available in cerise, silvery-pink and white.

CHRYSANTHEMUM – Matchsticks – Quilled petals with unique colour make this a winner. The flowers are a golden yellow tipped with fire red spoons. Late summer bloomer that continues well into fall.

CORAL BELLS – Kassandra – The foliage on this plant appears to be multi-coloured. The new growth has caramel and orange tones and then ages to maroon and pink. Wow!
- Stainless Steel – Metallic silver-green foliage with deep purple veins. This will stand out in the shade garden.

DAYLILY – This wonderful perennial is easy to grow and not particular about soil. Many varieties are rebloomers which means colour all summer. Try some of the new varieties as well as the long-time favorites.
- Berrylicious – This reblooming Daylily has apple red petals edge with dark purple. Eye catching!
- Whoppy – This is my new favorite. Dark purple flowers near black with a contrasting yellow throat. Stunning!

HOSTA – Color Festival – This Hosta has tri-coloured leaves – white centre to yellow to dark green margin. Grows to 45cm tall.

IRIS – Ancient Echoes – This German Iris has huge 15cm blooms with yellow standards and reddish black falls edged in tawny rose. A real beauty!

LILY – Magic Star – This new Oriental is a double! It has bi-coloured petals in purple and white. Fragrant!

LUPINE – Westcountry series – New hybrids from England with vibrant colours and sensational two-tones. Try Gladiator (bright orange and yellow) and Manhattan Lights (purple and yellow).

SEDUM – Razzleberry – This compact mounding Sedum has huge flower heads in bright raspberry red.
